There is No Authority But Yourself is a Dutch film directed by Alexander Oey documenting the history of anarchist punk band Crass. The film features archive footage of the band and interviews with former members Steve Ignorant, Penny Rimbaud and Gee Vaucher. As well as reflecting on the band’s past the film focusses on their current activities, and includes footage of Rimbaud performing with Last Amendment at the Vortex jazz club in Hackney, a compost toilet building workshop and a permaculture course held at Dial House in the spring of 2006.

The title of the film is derived from the final lines of the Crass album Yes Sir, I Will; “You must learn to live with your own conscience, your own morality, your own decision, your own self. You alone can do it. There is no authority but yourself.”

There is No Authority But Yourself premiered at the Raindance Film Festival at the Piccadilly Circus, London Trocadero in October 2006 and was part of the Official Selection film programme at the Flipside film festival in May 2008

Lazarus

Sunday marks the one year anniversary of my first performance of The Loneliness of Lazarus, a contemporary epic. To me this marks the first mature work of art that I ever completed. I will be doing a reading of the poem some time shortly to commemorate my first reading. Details to follow.

SINGULARITIES: PRESS RELEASE

TOUR OUTLINE:

The SINGULARITIES tour will take place in August, 2012. It will take place, entirely, within the United Kingdom. The cities featured on the tour will be: Glasgow, Manchester, London, Brighton and Newcastle. Before the tour, a pre-release show will be performed and recorded at Bar Loco in Newcastle on the 9th May, 2012 (£1 entry). The recordings of this event will be made available online for free or as a a CD for £3. Other than the title performance, acts will include Rachel James Brown and Jesters of the End Times, with the possibility of special guests in certain venues.

SINGULARITIES BRIEF:

SINGULARITIES is an experimental, theoretical poetry performance. Using only natural sounds - as can be made by the human body - the set-list will outline all information necessary in order to understand the basic philosophical framework recently published in Catalogue: Philosophy of Dead Things. Both emotionally and intellectually, the performance is intended to provide a theoretical basis to understand future releases by James R. Bell, as well as to provide entertainment.

ETHICAL ARTISTRY:

The tour is presented by Nyx Collective, a DIY art, music and publishing collective. All work is property of the artists, and produced by the artists. No profit will be taken by any parent company or used towards anything other than the future production of work. Prices have been kept, in all instances, to an absolute minimum.

Politically, Nyx Collective is comprised as a combination of Socialist, Communist and Anarchist artists. The views expressed by an artist are their own.

Feels odd seeing my event listed on something that isn’t Facebook, Tumblr or Twitter. Still, come along please.

The Breaking Point (DIY Art and the Grim Reality of Capitalism)

I haven’t really posted anything at all reminiscent of an essay on here in a long time, so this might come as a bit of a shock to you all. What I must say before I begin here is that I’m not entirely sure whether you can take this all too seriously as an actual essay or not: it’s a little bit trite and wholly summoned up by my current personal situation. Still, I’d like to think that I have the ability to look outside of that and offer something of actual worth in all that is to follow.
